Month of ... what?
Month of Bugs. The last time we did this - which was just before we released JBoss Cache 2.0.0 “Habanero” - it was overwhelmingly successful: lots of important bugs were reported, performance improvements made, quality enhanced and prizes won.
So successful, in fact, that we want to do this again, this time with JBoss Cache 2.1.0 “Alegrias”. Alegrias is currently in CR, and downloadable from the JBoss Cache download page.
So what’s new in Alegrias?
Alegrias is an evolution of Habanero and the 2.x API. However, while Habanero was essentially a new public API over JBoss Cache 1.4.x internals, Alegrias aims to refactor the internals so that it is optimised for the new 2.x API.
What does this translate to?
-
‣More robust and maintainable code base
-
‣Our most performant release ever - preliminary tests show almost 20% improvement over Habanero in typical setups using replication.
-
‣ A few API enhancements, including more convenience methods in Cache and Node
-
‣Some new features, including notifications for buddy group change events (JBCACHE-1257), TCP delegating cache loaders that are able to survive TCP cache server restarts (JBCACHE-1260), and more performant and robust state transfer using JGroups’ new “connect and transfer” API (JBCACHE-1189)
-
‣Several important bugs in Habanero now fixed.

Visit our JIRA page for full details of the release.
What’s next?
Another Month of Bugs competition! This one will run until the 15th of February 2008.
To participate, download Alegrias CRs, run them in your test environment, put them through your own unit and stress tests. And help us make the final release of Alegrias as robust and performant as possible.
What’s in it for you?
Just like the last Month of Bugs event we had, we’ve got cool prizes up for grabs. Prizes for the first 3 places are:
1. $200 Amazon or ThinkGeek voucher + JBoss.org t-shirt + a @jbosscache.org email alias!
2. $100 Amazon or ThinkGeek voucher + JBoss.org t-shirt + a @jbosscache.org email alias!
3. $50 Amazon or ThinkGeek voucher + JBoss.org t-shirt + a @jbosscache.org email alias!
There are also runner-up prizes of JBoss.org t-shirts for places 4 to 10.
Winners will be announced at the end of February on JBoss.org.
I can’t wait to get started!
Great! Download the latest CR from the download page, make sure you have a login for our user forums and JIRA. Please report findings on the forums first before creating JIRAs though.
